Get rich or die trying or is it just about what it entails to be the man or woman behind the suit?
“You should not open the door to somebody you don’t know. Don’t open the door if you don’t know whose on the other side.”
You are all dressed, excited for another interview. After all hopes were lost, you’ve got another chance to prove yourself. It’s a sales job; what’s more exciting is you can get paid a lot. Well that’s what the recruiter informed you.
And unfortunately after hearing that, you assumed all would be money since money is part of the keys to motivation. Okay enough of all these. Really? It’s door-to-door sales job.
As bad as its sounds; you have to bring your game in this type of position. Door to door sales, some of us can relate to this because we have either been the victim or the controller…okay we can all say it’s not that hard. Hmm lets see if we would rephrase that statement or completely go against it.
This is what you are told, ‘you can make up to $10,000’, but we forget to ask the follow-up question, how long will it take to get this certain amount of money and how true does it sound?
My father once told me, “if something sounds too good to be true, then it’s probably too good to be true”.
Getting the door slammed at your face, getting insulted, not even been acknowledged for standing outside…all these can be draining. The worst time to take this type of job is during summer, because its ‘hot as hell’, excuse my language. States like Arizona, Texas, Vegas and so on are the worst places to take on for a door to door sales position…it’s not encouraging working under the sun. Chance of getting sunburnt, dehydrated, getting insulted and the worst that could happen is making no sales. It takes a lot to keep up with this type of job especially when it’s fully commission.
Door-to-door sales is not just an experience but you are also gaining more knowledge on the products you are selling, connections with your customers, and chances of getting your own business.
Expect the unexpected!
So what happens in these scenarios listed above? You keep it moving to the next door.
Being blunt would only get you out of the door; try as much as to be polite.
There is a 70% chance you would get this look
Most customers give you this look; it’s the look of what again? Are you kidding me, what do want? Or I’m bored; let me see what you got.
What matters is know how to treat different customers different ways through personalizing your customers needs.
You don’t want a conversation like YOU LOST ME AT “DEAR SIR.”
Talk to your customers like you know them personally. It’s the key to winning and retaining customers.
Scam or Survival
Customers are aware of this, know how to present yourself in a reputable way within 25 seconds to a customer, to win the customer over and remove the fear your customers have towards you.
Badges must be worn in a visible place for customers to see
Now that’s not only scaring, but creepy. Don’t try to act like a clown when using an icebreaker and avoid using “Hey how is your day going?” Because if the customer day was bad, you are assured to not make good sales from that customer.
The seller(sales agent) needs to feel safe as well, make sure you are paired with someone: if a female seller, get paired with a male seller(or a partner) to lower the chances of being attacked. Also make sure you research the territory you are being assigned to two days ahead.
Some key-points to door to door sales
Maintain a great attitude
Posi-Negatives: An example of this is telling customers even though I came late to work, I still had a great day. This only causes customers to focus on the negatives.
Create Personal Relationship(CPR)
Keep It Short & Simple(KISS) “My favorite, can be very tricky though, if not used effectively”
Read, Relate, Reassure(RRR)
Smile, Eye contact, Enthusiasm(SEE)
The key to door-to-door sales is that once you are familiar and good with the system, you not only make a lot of HARD EARNED CASH, you can become your own boss and love every bit of it…these secret skills are not learned, its developed from you. Customers don’t like to be sold, they like to buy…if you love what you are doing, you are going to keep working hard and you will happy to wake up to work everyday…I never thought I would see any good in door to door sales, because it has been the most challenging job I have done, but it was worth every bit of it.
Happy customers tell two or more people about your service and angry customers spread the news to 10 or more customers. hmm now that’s risky, you don’t want that.
All I can say is door to door sales, is not easy, so that’s why I admire those that keep up with this job and those considering it…I love sales, and I’m sure at one point in our lives we have been involved in sales, through selling any of our items to our sisters, brothers or friends …The point is door to door sales is not what most people wish as a dream job, just what we do at a point in our life to survive or else we would die trying!!!!
So what if the door to door sales job is seasonal what happens? Well I will leave that unto you.
